JLA opinion

I really don’t understand WB’s mentality. The word is that they have a Justice League script that everyone is crazy about. That’s great, I understand that. What I don’t understand is why the rush? Yes, the strike is looming. But so what? Is the script not going to be as amazing in a few years? Are they not going to need a summer tentpole in a few years? Not only are they stepping on the toes of the current Batman and Superman franchises, it appears they are rushing a film that should be epic. It seems like this is going to be another League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I don’t know much of the history of that film, but it seemed like after paying for Sean Connery, the rest of the actors they used were the second choices, at best, for the characters. JLA deserves some A-list actors and enough of a budget to wow the audience. Granted, Brandon Routh was a relative unknown and I think he did an amazing job, both as Clark Kent and Superman, and I’m very excited to see what happens next in that series. But what are the odds that WB will do as well with using unknowns in the JLA film? To me, this guy is not Superman, and this girl isn’t Wonder Woman. Though nothing is set in stone, the actors supposedly involved are just not doing it for me. I cringe to think of who they might get for Batman, especially since, at this point in time, Christian Bale absolutely owns the role. Though I’m not a huge fan of performance capture, or whatever Robert Zemeckis wants to call it, that’s the only way I can really see this film working. I’d love to be proven wrong. But even more than that, I’d love for DC and WB to take a step back, let the current franchises breathe and thrive, and then bust out a great JLA movie.
