Despite what many felt was a sub-par offering in Spider-Man 3, Sony has already started gearing up for the next installment of everyone’s favorite webhead. Entertainment Weekly reports that scribe James Vanderbilt has been brought on to pen the next tale of Spidey. Vanderbilt’s last project was the David Fincher film “Zodiac,” which was very well-received by critics. The hope is that some of the grittiness of that film can seep into Spidey 4. We don’t necessarily need a really dark Spider-Man film, but we don’t need dancing emo Peter Parker either. No word on how the writer’s strike will affect things, but with a 2010 release date there should be enough time to get things done. No word yet as to the main stars’ involvement, but from the sound of things Sam Raimi is still on board the franchise.
