It’s been rumored for awhile now, ever since Latino Review broke the story, but now it’s official. Jake Gyllenhaal will play the lead in the film adaptation of the Prince of Persia video game. According to Hollywood Insider, “Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince of 6th Century Persia, who pairs up with Tamina, a princess to be played by new Bond girl Gemma Arterton, to prevent a nobleman from acquiring the Sands of Time — a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world”. The film will be directed by Mike Newell, who helmed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and will be released June 19 2009.
