weekend box office 6/30

June 30th, 2008 by dan

The big surprise this weekend isn’t that WALL-E took the top spot, it’s that Wanted wasn’t very far being. WALL-E opened with an impressive $63 million, which is the third best opening for a Pixar film. Word-of-mouth is great, as is the film, so look for it to have a strong run. Wanted did better than expected, pulling in $50.9 million for second place, and the seventh-best R-rated opening ever. Get Smart slipped to third place, but still pulled in a healthy $20.2 million. Kung Fu Panda continued its push to $200 million with another $11.6 million and fourth place. The Incredible Hulk still trails its predecessor, but snagged the fifth spot with $9.5 million.
